A Note From Your Estate Planning Team – March 30, 2020

It is hard to believe how much has changed in our world over the past few weeks.  We hope that while you are reading this, you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.  Please take good care of yourselves, get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water, and wash your hands often.  You are important to us.

When we face times like these, the importance of family inevitably becomes Priority #1.  We worry if they are safe and protecting themselves.  Are they scared?  Are they making wise choices?  We don’t want them to make the same mistakes we may have made.  We want to protect them.  These are all very normal reactions.  What can we do about this?

As we hunker down in our homes, perhaps we could find some time to review the estate plans we currently have in place to protect our loved ones.  Does our plan still make sense now that our kids have grown, we now have grandkids, our financial situation has changed . . . have there been new laws that would necessitate changes to our documents?  Does my Advance Health Care Directive reflect my current wishes in regard to medical care, long term care, end of life decisions?  Do my kids have their own Advance Health Care Directives and other estate planning documents in place?

Please know that your estate planning attorney here at Freeman, Freeman & Smiley is most happy to help you work through these questions, revise your estate planning documents as necessary, create estate planning documents if needed, and even discuss some opportunities the current economic landscape is providing for wealth transfers.

Even more important than all of this, we would just like to hear from you and know that you and your families are well.

We will be regularly updating this section of our website with reminders and alerts and ideas that will hopefully be useful to you in the days and weeks ahead.

If you need us, we’re here for you.  Stay safe and stay healthy.

With warmest regards,

Your Estate Planning Team
